Tower Federal Credit Union Streamlines Receipt Process With Integrated Media Management's TotaleReceipts

Press Release: Paperless technology saves time, costs, improves customer service
LINDEN, N.J., March 26, 2007— Integrated Media Management (IMM), which specializes in output management and document automation technology, has announced that Tower Federal Credit Union located in Laurel Md. has successfully implemented its TotaleReceipts product. TotaleReceipts eliminates the need for pre-printed paper receipts, as well as manual scanning and indexing or storing and retrieving, by automating the output of teller transaction receipts. TotaleReceipts has been installed at 199 credit unions nationwide.
"There are many ways you can use TotaleRecipts," said Wendy Langlois, research and development analyst for Tower. "We chose to have a dual-sided scanner and a star thermal printer at every teller station. The tellers are scanning every check and voucher that is attached to each transaction. We chose this option instead of using signature pads at the teller window for two reasons. First, some of our branches have remote teller workstations where tellers use more than one station. Second, we liked the check and voucher documentation archived with every receipt."
IMM constructed a custom program for Tower with the dual-sided scanners. On every item the scanner prints the name of the credit union, routing number, teller number, sequence number and date of the transaction.
"This has benefited us in many ways," said Langlois. "Our tellers were stamping every check and voucher with a teller stamp. Now, they no longer need the stamp since the scanner is imprinting this information on each item. Having the sequence number on each item is also a huge advantage. Our tellers were hand writing the transaction sequence number on each check because we use the sequence number in place of the account number for security purposes. The tellers no longer need to do that, and it's always clearly printed. When we receive a returned check at the credit union, we can now use the sequence number to view the exact transaction information. Prior to using TotaleReceipts, it would take hours to find a transaction if the teller forgot to write the sequence number or wrote it unclearly."
Another important benefit to Tower is that TotaleReceipts can print in off-host mode with the teller platform. "If any of our branches goes into off-host mode, it can automatically print off-host receipts," said Langlois. "In addition, IMM has an offline capability. So, if our core system is down, we can print a receipt for the member instead of hand writing one."
TotaleReceipts also helps tellers when they are out of balance because they can search the log by teller number, account number or dollar amount. The tellers can also search for a transaction and can see the receipt along with all the documents scanned with that transaction. "This really helps when assisting members," said Langlois. "For example, if a member comes in and says he did not make a withdrawal, the member service representative can pull up the voucher with the member's signature in seconds. We use to have to wait for our records department to find this documentation before we could follow up with the member."
"I can't say enough about how great both IMM and their employees have been through this project," said Langlois.
"It is our goal to simplify and streamline the document process in financial institutions as much as possible," said Chuck Klein, CEO of Integrated Media Management. "Going paperless not only with receipts, but also with checks and other documents saves both time and costs and allows financial institutions to better serve their customers."
